Ans. According to Newton's second law, "The force acting on a body is directly proportional to the rate of change of linear momentum of the body and the change in momentum takes place in the direction of the force.

Ans. Based on the direction and application, forces can be classified into,

i. Like parallel forces

ii. Unlike parallel forces.

Define inertia. Give its classification, Law of Motion, 10th New Syllabus, TN, 2019 - 2020.

1. The inherent property of a body to resist any change in its state of rest or the state of uniform motion, unless it is influenced upon by an external unbalanced force, is known as inertia.

2. It is classified into three types,

i. inertia of rest
ii. inertia of motion

iii. inertia of direction.

1. Assertion: The sum of the clockwise moments is equal to the sum of the anticlockwise moments.

Reason: The principle of conservation of momentum is valid if the external force on the system is zero.
